Background: Increased consumption of fish and fish oil as a source of n-3 long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (n−3 LC-PUFA), mainly eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA, 20:5 n-3) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA, 22:6 n-3) is often associated with decreased mortality (as well as morbidity) from cardiovascular disease.
